Don’t you wish every day at work was this fun? Well today was our 2nd annual Chili Showdown at work between our students and staff. We had lots of fun and a great turnout for this event. Maybe next year we will be ready for a Throwdown with Bobby Flay. Are you ready for us Bobby? Where ever you are on Halloween, have a happy and safe one!

What about the Red Sox? I believe the spell has definitely been broken, once again this year. After four games, New England reigns once again! Congratulations Boston Red Sox, winners of the 2007 World Series Championship! I wonder what will happen for the Patriots this year…..another Super Bowl? 
Well another weekend has passed quickly as I continued the home care of my injured momma. Her broken pelvis continues to heal at a slow pace. But I am enjoying my time with her, even though her pain meds tend to make her a bit on the cranky side.
Saturday she had a friend to visit her for the day so I headed off to enjoy the day with my nephew Mark, who celebrated his 17th birthday on Friday. We enjoyed the day shopping and had an oriental lunch…yum! It rained an incredible amount of soaking non-stop rain all day on Saturday. I had hoped to see it rain in Southern California and not here. The rain did not put a damper on our shopping and spending a a great day together. It is hard to believe m only nephew turned 17 on Friday and will be off to college in another year. He is a delightful lad and I hope he stays that way. I hope you had as much fun as I did Mark! Spending the day with your goofy old Aunt. After all he does enjoy shopping, he must have inherited the same shopping gene as I did.

Christmas 1965 seemed like a lifetime ago. A relative recently gave me this photo that my mom and dad had sent out as a Christmas card in 1965. A great memory indeed. I remember the day this photo was taken, sitting in the chair together…both my brothers and me. Where were you in 1965?
On another note: HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my nephew Mark today who is now 17…woohoo!

Pink Purse
If you have seen this purse please let me know. I am very disappointed. I wanted this purse. I didn’t get it. Now I’m furious. 
It was on Ebay and I bid on it. The last few seconds someone else bid higher than me by .50 freakin’ cents and they won it. I’d love to have it in my possession.
So if you if you see it around, please me know. A reward is offered.
PS. (grumble, grumble) This purse should have been mine!

It’s official….I’ve been inducted into the Taste of Gelato Hall of Fame. In order to pay homage to the world’s finest Gelato delicacies, I have been given a free pass to enjoy the taste in an unending manner. See you in Italy…ciao! I’ve died and gone to Heaven or Italy I should say!
Meanwhile, while I’m waiting, I’ll be taking care of Mi Momma’s injuries. Hope to see you on the other side of the Pond.

Fall is my favorite time of the year. I love the weather, the time change, the smell of the air, and the crunch of new fallen leaves. Ahhhhhhh! A time to cook slow and comforting foods. Since my mom is housebound, I have been staying with her and cooking lots of comforting foods for her to enjoy. Chicken soup, baked chicken, stuffed pork chops, homemade pizza, apple pie and and tonight I’m going to make Fettuccine all’Alfredo con Proscuitto di Parma. For those of you who would like to follow my recipe here it is:
1 (12 ounce) package egg fettuccine
1/3 pound prosciutto di Parma
2 tablespoons butter
1 to 1 1/4 cups half-and-half
1 cup (3 healthy handfuls) grated Parmigiano-Reggiano
2 pinches ground nutmeg or about 1/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
Coarse ground black pepper
A pinch coarse saltBring salted water to a rolling boil for the pasta and cook to package directions for al dente pasta.
Slice prosciutto ham into thin strips across. Separate ham ribbons and loosely pile them up and set aside.
Preheat a large skillet over moderate heat. Drain the pasta. Add the butter to the pan and melt. Add half-and-half to the melted butter. Stirring constantly, add cheese and cook sauce 1 minute. Season with nutmeg, pepper, and a pinch of salt. Turn off heat under sauce and add pasta to the skillet. Toss pasta until sauce coats the noodles evenly. Add prosciutto ribbons and toss to evenly distribute them. Mangia!

Well playing the household nurse for my mother has not been so bad after all; however, it has only been 5 days so far. My poor mom! She suffered a bad break in her right pelvis and she lives all alone. So seeing that I’m her only daughter I have been chosen by default to administer 24 hour care to her. Don’t get me wrong, it is difficult some days, but I’d do anything to keep my mom around for a long time. We are praying for a quick recovery, but the doctor told 6-8 weeks of bed rest with minimal walking. I did secure her a walker to assist with movement. I have also been cooking, washing and doing household chores for her as well. Not to mention time to read while she rests. I am hoping to have a home health aid in to assist with her needs some time this week. I wish her the best and hope she gets well soon. Keep her in your prayers!

I was supposed to leave for Kentucky today to see my family, but it is not going to happen. Late Wednesday evening my mother fell on the ground outside her house raking leaves and broke her pelvis. She is bed-ridden for the next 6-8 weeks, and I am her nurse til further notice. Which means…..I am cranky as hell….I need to find some good books to read.

Well Monday is once again upon me. I’ll be headed home to Kentucky on Friday to visit my hubby, Christina and Liam, my grandson. It is funny how time flies like the changing of the seasons. I haven’t seen my dear husband since August, so I miss him dearly. Ohhh, the strange life we live.
I have also been up to making a major life decision, and for those that know me, I have a tough time making decisions. I have encountered many life changes in the past including deaths in my family, a divorce, and many other of life’s usual curve balls, but this time it is different. In fact I have only told a few friends about this venture (not adventure) I have been exploring. I am a travel/foodie guru. So food is a major part of my life….most of the time in a good way. But food is also a challenge for me…well not me I should say, but my weight. Due to some complications of my weight I have decided to undergo the initial process of pursuing weight loss surgery (WLS). This is very difficult for me, as I beat myself up and sometime feel like a failure when it comes to losing weight and keeping it off. The problem is, if I don’t do this now, then I am looking at long term health problems in the future, and after all I am an avid traveler and I don’t want anything to stand in the way of our travels!!! However, this will change my life significantly. Very few of my family and friends are aware of my decision yet. So now goes the daunting task of explaining my decision and the procedure to those that care about me. I hope no one chokes while reading this!
Perhaps I will refer to this venture as my “re organization” of my insides, as I start to shed my “Fat Suit”…… *wink*
