May 3rd … Thirty Years Ago

May 3rd marked the thirtieth anniversary of my Dad’s death. Every year this day brings back flooding memories of him. Although I only had a short 16 years with him in my life, he taught me what is important. Family. He lived for his family. You see my Dad lost his mother at the age of three, so he was shuffled around to family members to live. In fact, he was out on his own at the age of fifteen to live on his own. My Dad and Mom met when they were sixteen and fifteen respectively. They married at the age of eighteen. My dad was a hard worker, and provided for his family a safe and secure place to live.
Reflecting back on my own life, I cried on Saturday thinking about how much he missed in my life. I know he watches me daily, but my selfishness keeps wondering what it would be like to have him around today. I miss you very much Dad and not a day goes by without me thinking of you. Thanks for all you gave me in my life!
