You never know what is going to happen in life…that is probably a good thing….somedays.

Each day when we wake up we can never be certain how the day will end. Most days it starts off fine and then a terrible turn of event s will end up ruining a perfectly good day. Or a bad day from the start can end up better than it started. I prefert to start my days off on a good note! Sort of like always being on vacation. On vacation everyday is usually a good day, often unexpectedly so! When we try to plan out of life we are often disappointed witht eh way it turns out…sort of like the forces of mother nature…we can’t interfere with the plan that God sets out for us.

In fact the only thing that I feel I have control over is my plans for vacations. I plan things in life but they don’t usually follow the way I want them to. But then again who am I to ask why? Sometimes the best plans are the ones we don’t have any control over. If we always knew what was going to happen in life, then there would be no surprises……good or bad. Another rant for the day!….ciao!

Plans are now underway for our much anticipated Summer 2007 travel event. We are once again headed to beloved Italia!!! Our home base will be Florence with side trips to the Amalfi Coast, Lake Como, The Dolomites, Rimini, and Grosetto.

We have chosen to rent a car once again…As Don likes to travel the back roads of Italy like a race car driver! Remember our trip to Mt Bianco last year…honey? I’m still recovering…hehehehe

Anyway our plans originally included company this year, but we are still not sure whether they are joining us or not. Anyway my bags will be packed and if they show up at the airport…that’s even better!

It’s funny that when you get the “travel bug” or so I like to say….life is never the same. You tend to spend hours daydreaming about the next trip. Reading reviews, planning and organizing, replanning, researchin, and then you become addicted to it! European travel does something to the soul….it changes life forever!

My lifelong dream has always been to travel all the continents of the world! See all the amazing sites I have dreamed about, visit exotic places, and meet people from other cultures. So far my favorite culture has been the dolce vita of Italia! We wish to make it our home someday! See you in Firenze…ciao for now!

KENNETT SQUARE, Pa. — Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro was euthanized Monday after complications from his gruesome breakdown at last year’s Preakness, ending an eight-month ordeal that prompted an outpouring of support across the country. Video | Images “We just reached a point where it was going to be difficult for him to go on without pain,” co-owner Roy Jackson said. “It was the right decision, it was the right thing to do. We said all along if there was a situation where it would become more difficult for him then it would be time.”

World Nutella Day February 6th, 2007. My Favorite Day is coming. Well I like Groundhog Day too!

What can you do with Nutella….well anything I believe. If you haven’t tried Nutella, then run to your favorite grocery store, purchase some, smear it on a bagel or croissant, toast, bread, or even just on a spoon……Yummy!

Recently I took some crusty Italian bread, smeared it with Nutella and sliced strawberries, then grilled it in my new panini machine….and when I took it out to enjoy the first bite….I was in Heaven. The taste of warm Nutella and stawberries is amazing!

So if you haven’t tried it already please join in the celebrating the day. If you have a recipe to share…please feel free to send it to me! Ciao!

Hyperthyroidism in Felines?

I am rather sad today. I took Bebe my 11 year old cat tot he vet’s yesterday for her checkup and I indicated to her vet that Bebe has lost weight over the last year. In fact she lost 2 lbs since last spring. Her heart rate was very tachycardic and the vet alos heard a heart mumur. Lab work was conducted and it indicated that my beloved Bebe has hyperthyroidism. This can be a serious issue for older cats, causing damage to her heart, liver and kidneys……poor Bebe. I feel so guilty of not taking her to the vet’s sooner…so today I am beating myself up over the situation. My vet prescribed Methinazole .5ml twice daily. My cat hates medication. The only other options are surgery to remove her thyroid tumor or take her to Boston for a radioactive injection that cost’s over $1500. I chose the medication as an alternative for now. I’ll take her back in 3 weeks for repeat lab to see if there is any improvement yet.

Upon this diagnosis my heart sank…my poor Bebe….why her? Only God knows….I guess that I will pray for her health to be restored.

According to some information I have reviewed these are the facts!

Cat Diseases and Illnesses—Hyperthyroidism

A common feline disease among adult and senior cats, hyperthyroidism is caused by the excessive production of hormones by an enlarged thyroid gland. This cat health condition may lead to the development of heart disease and can affect kidney function.

Treatments for hyperthyroidism include radioactive iodine and surgical removal of the thyroid gland.

Please pray for my kitty!

Well the snow has stopped after 9 inches…but the air temperature is a balmy 10 degrees with a -20 below zero wind chill factor….welcome to my world.

I stayed in bed til 11am this morning and dreaded touching my feet to the cold floor. I even had a difficult time stirring my cats awake. Indeed the were cuddled amongst the covers with me. Not wanting to evn stick their noses out from the blankets.

This is why I dream of travel…..my memories bring me back to Tuscany and Umbira in the sun filled days fo summer. Don and I a booking our flights this week!!! It looks like we are going to have travelling companions is time to Italy. We have nevered travelled with another couple before, so I am a bit anxious about our time alone. However, I super excited about being the tour guide! That means I’ll be able to share our special places with someone else….other than in photos and our homemade DVD’s. I am currently working on our itinerary which will include: Florence, Venice, the Alps or Dolomites, and a coastal region such as Rimini again. Ah…la dolce vita!

Outside the air is frigid, but my heart is warm with thoughts of travel once more! Now if I could only firgure a way to do this for a living! Sounds better than completing my Ph.D! hehehehe
